Executive Engineering Brief

Foam causes inaccurate shut-off, sticky neck drips, and inconsistent fill heights in clear bottles. Here is how overflow fill-to-level and diving nozzles solve the problem.

1. Why Does Foaming Occur During High-Speed Filling?

When liquids containing surfactants (detergents, soaps, sanitizers, vinegar, and certain oral suspensions) are pumped at high velocity, air entrainment creates dense surface foam. If filled using a simple top-pour nozzle, the foam trips optical level sensors prematurely, resulting in under-filled containers and messy exterior drips.

2. The Overflow Fill-to-Level Principle

Overflow liquid filling machines use a dual-port nozzle that seals against the bottle neck. Liquid enters through the core nozzle while air and excess foam escape through an overflow return tube back to the recirculating reservoir. This guarantees that every single transparent bottle on the shelf has the exact same visual fill height, regardless of minor variations in container interior glass volume.

3. Bottom-Up Diving Nozzles: Volumetric Precision

When exact dosing volume by weight (rather than visual liquid height) is legally required, bottom-up diving volumetric nozzles provide the ideal solution. By keeping the discharge opening submerged throughout the cycle, liquid is placed smoothly without splashing.
